1. Al-Hidayah: The Guidance, A Translation of Al-Hidayah Fi Sharh Bidayat Al-Mubtadi: Vol 1
By Imran Ahsan Khan Nyazee

The Hidayah has dominated the field of Islamic jurisprudence since the day it was written over 800 years ago. It has been the primary text used by Muslim jurists to issue authentic and reliable rulings on Islamic law according to the school of Imam Atha Hanifa (d. 1 50 AH/767 CE). The Hidayah commands such an authoritative position amongst the doctors of law that the knowledge of a scholar who has not read it is not considered reliable. Around 7o huge commentaries, some spread over more than a dozen volumes, have been written on it. The number of explanatory glosses is in thousands. Comprehensive in content and conveniently organised, with the publication of this book all previous works that discussed Islamic jurisprudence according to The Hanafi law become outmoded and soon fell into disuse. If revealed books are not taken into account, never has a book received so much attention as the Hidayah. This landmark publication of the Hidayah not only has been translated in its entirety for the first time but has been done so from Arabic, the language in which it was written. The Author, Shaykh al-Islam Burhan al-Din al-Marghindni (d. 593 AH/ 1197 CE) was considered to be the leading jurist of the Muslim world in his times. "The Hidayah is justly celebrated as the most practical and useful summary compilation of Hanafi jurisprudence. It has been a standard text in the curricula of Islamic law schools since the 12th century. Itwas first translated into English by Charles Hamilton ...read more

2. The Book of Revenue
By Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam

Kitab al-Amwal (The Book of Revenue) is the work of a brilliant legal mind. Abu 'Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam provides us with an accurate record of legal precedents laid down in the first two centuries of Islam, in particular those pertaining to the sources of revenue and the avenues of public expenditure. The power of the book, however, lies in the method of the author and the analysis undertaken by him. He gathers together the traditions of the Prophet (pbuh), the opinions of his Companions and the views of eminent jurists, and then subjects them to legal analysis that is unparalleled in Islamic legal literature. The book is essential for every student of Islamic law, especially those who wish to master the art of interpreting and analysing legal traditions and early precedents. In the discipline known as fiqh al-sunnah there is no book or manual that can compete with this outstanding work. The present translation includes a translation of the notes by Muhammad Khalil Harris. The translator Imran Ahsan Khan Nyazee teaches Islamic law and law at the Faculty of Shari'a and Law, at the International Islamic University, Islamabad. He is also editor of the Islamabad Law Review. Nyazee is the author of a number of books on Islamic law including Theories of Islamic Law and Islamic jurisprudence as well as the two-volume work Islamic Law, of Business Organization dealing with partnerships and corporations. He has translated Ibn Rushd's well-known work Bidayat al-Mujtahid ...read more

4. Islaamic Prespective of Contraception & Abortion
By Muhammed Al-Jibaly

This book is part three of the "Enter into Islam... Completely" series and deals with the authentic Sunnah regarding abortion. Also, this book deals with the issue of contraception. This issue has become one of the accepted elements of today's civilization, and a most common practice among the Muslims. By this, they often violate fundamental Islaamic principles. Some of them even go as far as performing abortion for the slightest excuse - not realizing that voluntary abortion could be a crime as serious as full-fledged murder. This necessitates providing some advise for those who seek the truth but have only heard the wrong views of the shallow-minded. It is important to present a clear picture of contraception and abortion, and a detailed reasoning for the position of Islaam in this regard. Thus, we present this little book. We hope that the English-speaking Muslims will be able to benefit from this in guiding themselves and others toward lawfully increasing the numbert of Muslims who raise Allaah's word most high.

5. Social Justice in islam
By Deina Adbelkader

W ESTERN theoretical approaches of modernization, development, social progress and interaction, have failed to understand the dynamics of the Islamic revival. Deina Abdelkader, in this seminal work argues that questions of social justice are indelibly tied to the phenomenon of contemporary Islamic resurgence as the quest for social justice is in fact motivated by the Shariah – hence an integral part of Islamic life and weltanshauung. Using the two sources of maqasid and maslhah, and through the examination of the dialectical link between fiqh and reality, the author shows their indispensability as important methodological tools for the study of the social sciences and, indeed, of social phenomena. "[Dr. Deina's] conclusions not only support the assertions of those who say that Islamic jurisprudence has methodologies and tools that can be used successfully for the study of social phenomena throughout the Muslim world; they also form the nucleus of an Islamic metholodology that can be further developed to enable it to bring about the progress, which the social sciences are still striving to achieve."

The Evolution of Fiqh (Islamic Law & the Madh-habs). by Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips In the Evolution of Fiqh (Islamic Law & the Madh-habs). The author very dearly presents a brief overview of the historical development of Islamic law and its schools (the madh·hahs). The book identities the main reason for the appearance of the madh-habs and the factors leading to differences among them. For those to whom the madh-habs have been a mystery'. this aspect of the book will be extremely enlightening. Although the author sheds lighe on both the positive and ncgative roles of the madh-habs in the past, the main message of the book is a call to the understanding of logistic differences (with an aim to remove them where possible), and a proposal for the unification of the madh-habs. "What makes this book stimulating are the perceptive and penetrating questions that Abu. Ameenah raises ... The book is important as it draws the Muslims' attention to self-criticism that is long overdue" - Dr. Abdur Rahman Doi , Muslim World Book Review, Vol 10, no.4, 1990 "In this book the author ... presents the subject in such un attractive and lucid manner''- that I could not part from it once I started reading it, finishing it in one sitting" - M.M. 7. The Islamic Will
By Aisha Bewley

If you want your wealth to be distributed in accordance with the Shari `a of Islam after your death, it is essential for you to leave a Will which is valid under English law and which expresses that wish. Malik related to me from Nafi` from `Abdullah ibn `Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "It is the duty of a Muslim who has anything to bequeath not to let two nights pass without writing a Will about it."

8. The Distinguished Jurist's Primer Vol 2
By Ibn Rushd

Ibn Rushd's Bida yat al-Mujtahid occupies a unique place among the authoritative manuals of Islamic law. It is designed to prepare the jurist for the task of the mujTahiti, the independent jurist, who derives the law and lays down precedents to be followed by the judge in the administration of justice. In this manual Ibn Rushed traces most of the issues of Islamic law, describing not only what the law is, but also elaborating the methodology of some of the greatest legal minds in Islam to show how such laws were derived. This text provides a still-relevant basis for the interpretation and formulation of Islamic law. Combining his legal and philosophical knowledge, Ibn Rushed transcends the boundaries of different schools and presents a critical analysis of the opinions of the famous Muslim jurists and their methodologies. The legal subject areas covered include marriage and divorce; sale and exchange of goods; wages, crop-sharing and speculative partnership; security for debts and insolvency; gifts, bequests and inheritance; and offences and judgements. Inn-an Nays is Assistant Professor at the International University, Islamabad. 12. Shariah:The Islamic Law
By A.R Doi

FROM THE BOOK: "The thoroughness of the Prophetic condemnation of usury which was made after the dawn of Islam, leaves no room for any part, however indirect, in the Islamic transaction. The Apostle of Allah cursed the receiver (literally, the eater) of interest, and the clerk who writes the bond, and the two witnesses thereof, and declared them all as equally culpable. Other traditions record that the Prophet (S.A.W.) forbade the barter of a heap of date of an unknown weight for a specified quantity. Similarly, Muslims are forbidden to sell the fruit upon their trees, before it is ripe, even when the two part les are willng to take the risk. Thus all that the Book of Allah and the Sunnah have prohibited of the transactions aims at the realisation of equity and at the prohibition of injustice, whether light or grave. These aspects according to Ibn Taimiyyah, include: "appropriation of the property of others unjustly, or by usury and gambling." Certain aspects of usury and gambling, in particular, which the Prophet (S.A.W.), has forbidden are for example: a) Selling of commodities or lands not possessed by the seller. b) Selling of animals still unborn. c) Selling of birds not yet hunted and of fish not yet caught. d) Selling the Musarrat, the ewe of which has not been milked for a long time, to impose on the buyer falsely that its milk is always abundant. e) Selling of commodities of which the defects have been disguised. f) Selling of commodities while a...read more

13. Ibn Ashur Treatise On Maqasid Al-Shariah
By Al-Tahir Ibn Ashur Muhammad

Shaikh Muhammad al-Tahir ibn Ashur is the most renowned Zaytuna Imam and one of the great Islamic scholars of the 20th century. The publication of this translation of Shaikh Ibn Ashur's Treatise on Maq5sid al-Sharicah is a breakthrough in studies on Islamic law in the English language. In this book, Ibn Ashur proposed Maqäsid as a methodology for the renewal of the theory of Islamic law, which has not undergone any serious development since the era of the great imams. Ibn Ashur — quite courageously — also addressed the sensitive topic of the intents/Macfisid of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) behind his actions and decisions. He introduced criteria to differentiate between the Prophetic traditions that were meant to be part of Islamic law and the Prophetic actions/sayings that were meant to be for the sake of specific purposes such as political leadership, court judgment, friendly advice, and conflict resolution. But Ibn Ashur's most significant contribution in this book has been the development of new Macjasid by coining new, contemporary, terminology that were never formulated in traditional usfil al-filth. For example, Ibn Ashur developed the theory of the 'preservation of lineage' into 'the preservation of the family system', the 'protection oftrue belief into 'freedom ofbeliefs', etc. He also introduced the concepts of 'orderliness', 'natural disposition', 'freedom', 'rights', 'civility', and 'equality' as Mailisid in their own right, and upon which the whole Islamic law i...read more

15. Islamic Rules of Spending and Guardianship
By Dr.Maulana Imranul Haq Kalyanvi

This book covers a subject spending and guardianship that is generally neglected. Very little is written about it. Mawlana Doctor Mufti Imran-ul-Haq Kalyanvi picked up his pen and wrote a very well researched thesis on it. He looks into the subject from the point of view of the Quran and Hadith. How does the Quran define the subject and what are its instructions in this regard? What did the Prophet say about it and how he put it into action? The Prophet laid particular emphasis on raising daughters and looking after widows and he told the affluent, the husbands, the parents, etc. What their responsibilities are. The book traces how the caliphs dealt with spending and guardianship.

16. Student's Bahishti Zewar for Male
By Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi

The popular and well-known book 'Bahishti Zewar' of Hakim al-Ummat Mawlana Ashraf 'Ali Thanawi, needs no introduction. It contains all the necessary rules and regulations (according to the Hanafi math-hab) needed for a Muslim from birth till death. It gained such popularity and acceptance that approximately, 100,000 copies were printed in the authors lifetime (early 1900's)! The book was originally written for women. However, it has proved extremely beneficial for men as well. Bearing this in mind, the compilers of this particular edition undertook the task of removing those rules and regulations which were applicable [solely] to women, while maintaining those applicable to men. Other peculiarities of the book include: * The language of the book has been simplified for easy understanding * The female tense used in the original work has been replaced with the male tense * The chapters have been re-arranged according to the Juridical chapters found in books of fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) * A brief exercise is added at the end of almost every chapter so that teachers may guage the students' understanding of the text. Those who undertake self-study may also benefit from the exercises. English translation by Mawlana Muhammad Mahomedy.

THE MERCY IN THE DIFFERENCE OF THE FOUR SUNNI SCHOOLS OF ISLAMIC LAW By al-Oath as-Safadi of Damascus This book is the first translation into English of a well-known and widely used, six hundred year old classical Arabic text, Its author, Qadi Safadi of Damascus, designed it for his contemporaries as a reference book to acquaint the followers of the four schools of fiqh with the rulings of the other schools, so that needless antagonism and misunderstandings did not spring up out of ignorance and prejudice. The need for such a book is even more pressing in the present circumstances, and this excellent and succinct book which covers the whole spectrum of the Deen is a timely and much needed addition to the Islamic source material available in the English Language.

19. Fatawa Sirat-e-Mustaqeem
By Mahmood Mirpuri

All praises be to Allah, Lord of honour and glory, who has guided us to be Muslims and made us among the followers of His last Prophet (peace be upon him). We are pleased to present this valuable and noble collection of 'Fatawa Sirat-e-Mustaqeem' (Islamic verdicts, questions and answers) which have been selected and compiled from the Urdu monthly magazine 'Sirat-e-Mustqaeem' published by Markazi jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, UK. The 'Fatawa' (verdicts) to the readers queries and questions on Islamic matters were initially given by the Late Maulana Mahmood Ahmed Mirpuri. His effective method of replying in the light of Qur"an and Sunnah, as well as in accordance to the current issues, no doubt benefited readers worldwide rather than just the one questioner. So, we had numerous demands to compile this series into a book. When this book (in Urdu) was presented in the UK, the response from the community was very encouraging and a huge demand arose for the translation of this collection into the English language, so that the English speaking community and especially the younger generation of Muslims may benefit from this valuable knowledge also. Maulana M. Abdul Hadi al-Oomeri performed the great task of the translation of these Fatawa, who tried to use the simplest vocabulary possible to make this book easy to read and easy to understand for everyone, because this book is not for the purpose of literature nor for academics alone, it is for the benefit of all. This book: "The Conditions, Pillars and Requirements of Prayer" is a brief treatise designed for easy memorization and retaining since the author lists each point briefly followed by its proof from the Qur'aan and Sunnah. From among the several scholars that explained this treatise are Shaikhs Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaamee and ‘Abdul-Muhsin Al-‘Abbaad.
